TokBox Announces…

You may have noticed your inbox full of emails about GDPR leading up to the new regulation coming into force on May 25th. Well in advance of the deadline we announced that TokBox is fully compliant with GDPR. For an in-depth look and how we got there, see our GDPR + TokBox guide.

You asked for it, and now we’ve delivered: HD Archiving and HD Streaming. Join customers such as Crowdcast and Cambly in building high definition, super engaging video experiences.

For some of our customers, restricting media traffic to specific zones is critical to compliance and security requirements. In addition to zones for the US and EU, customers can now also restrict media traffic to Germany.

Version 2.14 of the OpenTok SDK was released at the beginning of May. The new version includes the Frame Metadata API, which supports augmented reality use cases. Check out the full rundown of new features and how to use them.

At the beginning of May, Facebook announced that Instagram and Whatsapp would both get group video chat. With group video now integrated in all the major messaging apps, and the continued popularity of Houseparty and others, apps are now looking to including filters and AR to stand out from the crowd.

Apple announced that group video FaceTime calls will be included in iOS 12. This new feature was announced at WWDC and will allow up to 32 people to join a video call
